SewMamaSew Giveaway Day Giveaway #1

Sew Mama Sew Giveaway

(***Edited - I removed the Rafflecopter app since the number of entries was not tracking with the number of comments. I will just pick a number at random (with the help of a trusty assistant or random.org) and count my way to the winner :)***)

Greetings!  It's SewMamaSew Giveaway Week (Can I get a "woot woot!"? - how 'bout just a "woot!"? It is Monday after all)!

Welcome to my blog! If you poke around, you'll notice that there hasn't been a lot of activity here for the last year, as I had a baby and consequently, my sewing space disappeared :) But I'm still an avid fabric and quitl/sewing inspiration collector.

I have been really lucky to win several giveaways in the past (actually, I just one one two weeks ago from Anna's awesome Noodlehead blog) including a couple SMS giveaway day and I wanted to return the favor to all you fabulous fabric-aholics, fabric connoisseurs, fabric aficionados out there.

I've never done a giveaway before (so sorry in advance if I muck it up!). I really use this space as a sewing journal, to document the projects I'm working on and make little notes for myself, in case I revisit a pattern or idea. And as I mentioned, there's not a lot of activity on here at the moment - though I hope to change that when we move to our new place in August!

Please enter by May 16, 2014 at 10pm CST. Just a comment will do ya - Tell me a project that you are really proud of or that is a favorite that you've made. Share a link if you've got one. C'mon - toot your own horn and we can all share in a Mutual Admiration Society! My apologies, but this is open to US addresses only.

On to the fabric!

I hate to call these "scraps" because I don't want to give the impression that they are schnibbles or snippets. These are legit pieces of fabric! They just aren't full, proper "cuts." So, they are scraps in that sense and because I've used them in a couple projects.

Like this one:

Or this one:
Patchwork Chevron blocks in progress

Both are still UFOs.  The incomplete zig zag above is a Moda Bake Shop pattern. I have all the blocks done and packed away somewhere. They just didn't all fit on my design wall (which is a flannel-backed vinyl table cloth!) I believe I cut 4" blocks instead of using 5" charm squares. It's hard to remember, since it was a couple of years ago! (Do you have any projects like that?!) I'm sure I wrote it somewhere on this blog - I'll have to take a look!

Sew Mama Sew Giveaway

All fabrics are from the Joel Dewberry Heirloom line from Free Spirit Fabrics. I'd say that most of the pieces are bigger than a fat eighth and maybe around a quarter yard. Some are selvage to selvage, some have one selvage and a small number have neither. There are 17 total prints and I would estimate about 4 yards of fabric. The orange, yellow, aqua ones above are between 6"or 7" by at least 40".

Sew Mama Sew Giveaway

These are wider cuts - closer to 13"-14.5" by 33".  I think one is more like 13" by 29".

These are lovely fabrics. The colors are great - I love the oranges and the pink/garnet prints are really saturated. There's a good mix of really bold graphic prints and more delicate florals to balance it out. I've really had fun working with them and I hope someone else enjoys them too!

I have a second giveaway posted HERE. (Bridges fabric from Waterfront Park.)

Good luck!! I look forward to reading about your awesome projects!

I like the fact that my simple pattern for "window's quilt" was on Craftsy #1 spot for several days in a row. Thanks for chance to win.

I made a tablerunner as a mother's day gift and she wanted bear paws - I was so proud of my precision on this project - all my triangles had points for once! ;-)

I've never quilted, but I have had knit fabric victory lately!

I just finished a Hungry Caterpillar quilt pieced from a panel for a friend's baby. I just sort of cut squares and pieced until it all fit together- and it actually looked really cute! Thanks for the giveaway- and schnibbles is the best word ever! Sarah: crjandsbj(at)netzero(dot)com

When my granddaughter was 2ish, I made her a backpack from
Rae Hoekstra's pattern for a toddler size backpack. It was blue denim with glittery pink stars on it...so little girly! She loved it!

Okay, so really all I usually sew is dresses for my daughter (and nieces). Sometimes bibs, or baby blankets, or baby toys. I'm most proud of the dress I sewed my daughter for Christmas this last year though, because it had a full lining and I am usually just not up for that level of dedication to a pattern. ;)

I still fondly remember the medieval under- & over-dresses I made as a bridesmaid years ago. NEVER AGAIN, but yeah, they were fantastic!

I made a quilt for my aunt's 80th birthday. It was a Bow Tie pattern and I called it "Family Ties". My sweetheart says it is his favorite of everything I've made, and my aunt loved it also.

Beautiful fabrics! I made a reproduction of an antique quilt--my way. LOVE it!

I don't know if there's one project that really stands out - I'm proud of almost everything I make because I put so much effort into all of it. I guess I'll say all of the 100% hand sewn quilts that I've made where every single stitch was sewn by hand - from piecing to quilting to binding. Even if they were worked on slowly over years... just because it was such a lengthy process I'll say those. :)

I made a school nap mat for my daughter, and appliqued her name on it. She's gotten a lot of compliments, so that's my pat-myself-on-the-back "quilt." Thank you for the lovely giveaway. These fabrics are gorgeous!

I actually finished a quilt (okay, it was a baby quilt, but still) about a month ago. I always start things but don't finish, so I was really happy to actually complete something. And it was only a week late, and apparently was just what the mom wanted.

My favorite project I've made has been my son! Ha ha, oh you mean crafty project? :) I don't really have a favorite one, Mostly they are all my favorite until I make something new! I do love the quilt I'm currently working on, though I need to fix one of the blocks before I can continue. :/ Things kinda get put on the back burner if I need to go back and fix something.

Your quilts in progress are lovely! And fortunately they will keep. Each day with your baby will pass, so I understand your priorities! I love the Joel Dewberry fabric. My favorite quilt is a huge watercolor banner that is hanging in the sanctuary of our church. Thanks for the chance to win!

I made my first quilt last year for my toddler. Technically it is so imperfect but my daughter sleeps under it every night and loves it so much so I consider it a perfect success. Here's a picture (at the very end of the post): http://onehotstove.blogspot.com/2013/03/a-tale-of-many-quilts.html

Thanks for the generous giveaway.

I did a pattern test for someone and used pink and green fabrics with an ORANGE background. It was SO outside my comfort zone, and I don't know who is going to eventually end up with it (a fun, girly teen?) but I love how it turned out.

Sandra said...

I made a baby's quilt from Michele's Romantic Tangle. It was really cute. I did it in all different shades of blue squares. I was so proud of myself that I am thinking of doing the same quilt pattern in yellows. Thank you for the generous different assortment of fabric. We all want fabric and we all need fabric. So,thank you for being a part of Sew Mama Sew giveway and the chance to win - fabric.
